tYPES OF CAMERA SURVEILLANCE SYSTEMS

There are two main types of CCTV system, the traditional analogue system that uses copper cable to each camera and records images onto a DVR (Digital Video Recorder) and more modern digital system (IP) system that uses data cabling (Cat 5 / 6) and records images onto a NVR (Network Video Recorder).

Digital systems generally deliver much higher quality images with 8 to 12 megapixel cameras able to record at 15 to 20 frames per second.

Modern CCTV camera technology has made them much more compact and now allows for smaller inconspicuous housings with superior quality video pictures and audio recordings. Different technologies can be utilised and traditional optical cameras can be supplemented with thermal imaging cameras either as a standalone camera or a bi spectrum unit with 2 cameras in 1 housing.

Thermal imaging cameras are a robust solution for offering reliable false alarm free intruder detection that can be linked to audio warnings, live monitoring station links, your smart device and even the Police. This solution is excellent for protecting perimeters, large open areas, business forecourts, car dealerships, storage areas and gardens. Thermal imaging camera solutions can even be used to detect the heat from a fire and body temperatures in excess of 37.5 degrees (a common symptom of a fever) for health screening.

CCTV systems can also be integrated with your alarm system to provide a comprehensive security package.

security benefits

There are several reasons why people make the decision to install security cameras. One reason is to protect their property. If you own a home, business, or other building, installing a camera system will help to deter theft.

Another reason is to prevent crime. If you’re worried about safety, having a camera system installed will allow you to see who is coming into your house or office. You will even be able to detect their presence and it can alert you or a monitoring station immediately.

uses for cctv cameras

Security cameras come in different sizes and shapes. You’ll find them mounted everywhere – through from walls to ceilings and even windows in some cases. In addition to recording images, some systems can send alerts when motion is detected, when temperatures are exceeded or when virtual detection lines are crossed.

These alerts can be sent to a smart device or a monitoring station and compliant systems can even have Police response.
